iPod touch and iPhone

It's almost a week now since Apple announced the new iPod touch and a price drop to the iPhone, and the question comes up: Should I buy it? Well let me give you my opinion.

First let us look at the price of the two product. The 8GB iPod touch will be sold for $299US, while the 8GB iPhone is selling at $399US. It might seems that the extra $100 you pay for the iPhone is to buy the "phone" function. However, it may be much more than that.

According to Engadget, Apple has disabled bluetooth on the iPod touch. It's also confirmed that the iPod touch cannot add calendar appointments. Therefore, the extra $100 dollars on the iPhone seems to be buying much more than just the ability to send and receive calls.

Does that make the iPhone superior to the iPod touch? Just looking at the price of the products, yes. The iPhone is a cell phone, obviously, it is also a media player (iPod) and a PDA. However, this is only half the picture, don't forget the two-years AT&T plan that is tide to the phone. The cheapest plan on an iPhone is $59.99US with 450 minutes, unlimited data access and 5000 night and weekend minutes. The same plan without unlimited data access on other phones is selling for $39.99, so it's really not that bad.

After considering all the data, I concluded that the iPhone is a better choice over the iPod touch. If you still thinks the iPhone is too expensive, you can go for the 4GB version for just $299US. That's the same price as the 8GB iPod touch. Apple has discontinued the 4GB model already, but there is still some inventories, so if you really like to "enjoy" the iPhone but don't want to pay a high price, don't wait!

Meet the New iPod Family!

Today, Steve Jobs has announced an extreme make over to the iPod family. This is probably the biggest change to the iPod family ever. In the past, Apple usually announce a product one-by-one. However, this time, almost the whole iPod family has changed.

First, the iPod shuffle, the smallest in the family. Spec-wise, there is virtually no change. Apple has only changed the colors of the shuffle. Now it comes in four new different colors, plus silver.

Then is the next generation of iPod nano. First of all, it's "fatter", both in size and capacity. The lowest end model starts with 4GB and $149. It's shaped like a compressed "iPod". Covered in a metal body. The reason for the nano to grow wider is Apple has put a 2" screen on the nano for video play back.

Today, Apple has given a new name to the original iPod. They've renamed it iPod classic and the next generation was introduced. The iPod classic looks very similar to its smaller brother the nano. Only the classic longer and slightly wider. It's also covered in a metal body, and is available in two colors. The capacity has also grown, the lowest end model has a 80GB hard drive inside. The high end model has double the capacity, 160GB. With that much space, the 160GB model can holds 40,000 songs. Assuming each song is three minutes long, you can now listen to your iPod non-stop for a month without repeating any song.

Last is the most exciting announcement of the day. Apple has announced a new member to to iPod family, it's called the iPod touch. It's basically an iPhone without the "phone" part. They look very similar to each other, even the dimensions are alike. It has the patterned touch-screen on the iPhone. It also has built-in wi-fi. Apple has loaded a Safari browser into the iPod touch, that means you can browse the web on the iPod touch near any hotspot. Another reason this device has built-in wi-fi is Apple will launch something called "iTune Wi-Fi Music Store" in the near future. That means we can now buy songs directly on the iPod touch(and the iPhone).
